sanity simply means to act in accordance with what the majority of people consider to be socially-acceptable behavior. it's the measuring stick that says who is better at following other people's rules. to be labelled "insane" is the threat, the punishment, that keeps meek people in line, acting right, from fear of being a social misfit and outcast from the group.

What about people who are so far out there that they can't eat or clean themselves, who turn against their friends and suddenly accuse them of working for the CIA, etc? Is that just acting socially unacceptably?
